2015 Australian MTBO Championships

6-8 November, Anglesea, Victoria

2015AusMTBOChamps logoThis year's Aus MTBO Champs is going to be very special with brand new mapped areas to use and explore and all on Victoria's spectacular Surf Coast.

The events are held just over an hours drive from Melbourne airport and about 30 minutes from Jetstar’s Avalon airport. The map areas include some fantastic riding opportunities through through unique coastal forest, which is quite different from the usual Victorian MTBO maps.

The carnival is also a round of the National Series, a World Ranking Event for Elites in the Middle and Long races, and again this year will also be an Australia New Zealand MTBO Challenge for the age classes.

Unfortunately the carnival clashes with the Highland Fling MTB race, but let me tell you, the Fling was on last year, it will be on again next year, and the year after. The Aus MTBO Champs at Anglesea is a unique one off event – Don’t miss it!

You can read all about the events, the details and plans in Bulletins 1 & 2 which can be found on ausmtbochamps.com. This website will be the central place for news and information about the championships. Don't forget to download the brochure to remind you and pass around to friends and family.

This year's NSW MTBO championships will be held from August 9-10 on Dungog Common, a fantastic area dedicated to mountain biking and bushwalking.

Organiser Greg Bacon reports: "There are over 200 acres of land with approximately 20km of mountain bike and 4x4 tracks. The area has been used for State MTB endurance races over the last couple of seasons." A full description of the courses is available on the bulletin posted on Eventor.

The sprint events will be determined by the overall time of the two separate sprints conducted on the day. Course 5 will be the second sprint for all classes, the action will be fast and furious with the open areas giving a good view of the competitors as they tackle the courses.

The long distance events will cover most of the tracks on the common with the courses laid out to make the best of the single tracks. Most courses will have around 300m of climbing on easy riding zigzag trails around the hills.
The common has large areas of open land and some lightly wooded areas. The open land will allow for some
interesting route choices although the tracks are still the fastest way around the course.

It is a long way to travel for the events so we hope that by having the double sprint and a fun and challenging long distance event that we can entice a few inter state competitors. There will be a juniors/novice course on both days. If you have entered, your children ride for free.

There is camping available at Dungog Showground on the Saturday night.
Entries are now open, and close on August 3 - we hope you can join us!
